Harm OCD is a type of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in which individuals are obsessed with the idea that they may harm others, often without any intention or desire to do so.

Family history may also play a role; people with first-degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) who have OCD are more likely than those without a family history of OCD to develop the condition. How Is Harm OCD Treated?


The most effective treatment for Harm OCD is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). ERP is a type of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that involves gradually exposing yourself to your feared thoughts, images, and impulses while refraining from engaging in compulsions such as avoidance, mental rituals, and reassurance-seeking behaviors. This process can be difficult and anxiety-provoking, but it is the best way to reduce your symptoms and gain control over your disorder. Medication may also be prescribed in some cases to help reduce anxiety and other symptoms associated with Harm OCD.
